You know what jorts, normcore, and snoods are, but this is the latest batch of nonsensical fashion jargon. From niche trends to "why is that a thing," get hip to the sartorial slang of 2016.
SHACKETT
A shell jacket. Yeah. Basically, it's a lightweight jacket.
GLOVE SHOES
The glove shoe is a pump or flat shoe with a high
vamp, covering up your toe cleavage (the way it ought to be).
CHICKEN CUTLET
In the fashion world, chicken cutlets aren't what you're picking up from Whole Foods for dinner. Or maybe they are, but they're also the silicone pads that cover up your nips on a cold day (also known as pasties, nipple covers, and gel petals). This "chicken cutlets" term is what's most often used by stylists on set, though, when high- beaming models won't do.
BALLOON SLEEVES
As seen at J.W. Anderson, Simone Rocha, and Marni (pictured here), balloon sleeves made their mark on the fall 2016 runways. The signature bulbous shape falls below the bicep, as to not to be confused with the power shoulder.
LAMPSHADING
This is the silhouette of a voluminous miniskirt or dress atop a set of long legs. It's also a major reward.
EAR JACKET
The ear jacket is a new normal in jewelry design.
It's a three-piece set containing a stud in front, a
middle piece you attach at the back that hangs
below and hugs your earlobe, and a fastener to secure it all in back.
BUM BAG
Yes, we call this a fanny pack stateside. But across
the pond? They cheekily (get it) call it a bum bag.
CHOKER TOP
We've covered choker tops before, but in case you missed it, this is a top...combined with a choker. Because sometimes you're just too busy to accessorize.
BUNS
Buns is an abbrev for bunions, which fashion people talk about because, duh, they're often formed by uncomfortable heels. But these major Dior shoes? Worth it.
HIGHLY SPECIFIC 'IT' ITEMS
We love "It" in fashion. There are It girls like Amandla Stenberg, here; It bags, and even It sleeves (note the previously mentioned balloon sleeves). Whatever is on-trend or popular can be labeled as "It," no matter how niche that is. It jeans hemline (frayed and raw). It shoe-vamp (glove, duh). Got it?
SHOEFIE
A shoefie is a picture of your shoes that you take by yourself.
SOCK BOOTS
While this Vetements pair takes "sock boots" literally, they can also be any ankle boot with a stretchy upper that creates a tighter boot shaft, like a tube sock.
