It is probably safe to say that 80% or more of wedding fashion attention focuses on the bride, her girls, and the mothers! But really there is so much for the guys these days, we need to cast the spotlight their direction as well. Once upon a time the groom was relegated to a full dress tux with tails and a bow tie. Eventually, that stringent policy relaxed and the guys could wear a basic black tuxedo. But just as wedding dress trends have changed over the years, so have tuxedos. Over the past two to three years we have seen the drastic rise in popularity of grey suits. These suits or tuxedos range from light grey all the way to charcoal. The effect is a more fashion forward and comfortable look than the black is able to provide. However, the grey tuxedos are now becoming less of a trend and more of a classic. In light of this, we wanted to take a look at some of the menswear trends we see emerging for the upcoming wedding season!
Mix and match suits and suit colors
How fun that guys no longer have to be boring and an exact replica of each other! If the girls can pick their own dresses, why not the boys with their suits? As shown above, we recommend picking only a couple of colors so you don’t end up with too much of a hodge podge. But perhaps one guy likes a slim fit in a lighter shade of blue and someone else wants something more with a more traditional fit in grey. We say to go ahead and let them do it! This creates a fun and relaxed look. This idea especially works for an event where the overall feel is eclectic with a bit of whimsy.
Adding texture to the assemble with patterned shirts, textured vest, and playing with tie and bowtie prints.
The idea of adding a patterned shirt is one we are just seeing emerge on the landscape. And oh boy do we love it! This is a great way to shake things up and add some differentiation. By then adding a textured vest you bring a bit of old world feel turning the look a bit more classic. Finally, add in a fun bow tie and this look is wedding fashion dynamite!
Play with accessorizing with mix and match prints for ties and bowties.
Patterned bow ties and ties have been taking over the fashion scene and styled photoshoots for awhile. But now it is time for grooms to embrace this trend. Nothing is better than details that pop in wedding photos. Unique ties and fun colors are one fantastic way to do this. If you still want a traditional solid tie, consider adding in a colorful patterned pocket square to kick the outfit up a bit. With so many different colors, patterns, and combinations, the options are practically limitless.
The blue suit
The blue suit has been a strong southern tradition for many years. In the wake of the grey suits, it began to take a back seat. But the blue suit is coming back with a vengeance! And really, why shouldn’t it? This classic ensemble brings a bit of color, allows for more fashion forward fits, and coordinates so beautiful with a vast array of colors. Because who doesn’t love the look of a navy suit with an ivory gown? It sure makes us swoon!
Its okay for the groom to stand out, let him wear a different color or the only one wearing a jacket
We have started to see a trend of the groom being the only one to wear a jacket while the boys wear vests that match the suit. We love this idea because just as the bride stands out, the groom should too! However, we love this idea too of having the groom in a lighter color. Definitely makes for a great looking picture!
Suspenders and colored suspenders
Bring those suspenders back!! Suspenders have taken a bit of a hiatus on the fashion scene. But now, we see them exploding back into the public eye. These monogrammed suspenders are the perfect classy touch. But you could also shake things up by using bright colors, or even patterns! This is a fun twist from the vest look and would leave your guests impressed with your awesome fashion sense.
Just as the bride gets to find the perfect gown for her and the bridesmaids get to have fun trying on a million dresses, the groom’s deserve to have fun too. With so many fashionable options, it is hard to narrow down which one could be perfect. Whatever look you decide to go with, remember to stay true to the vision you have in your head for your special day.
