From couture to ready-to-wear, Zuhair Murad knows how to flawlessly unify his Lebanese heritage with modern design. Zuhair Murad’s Resort 2017 collection was inspired by an imaginary dialogue between British photographer David Hamilton and a self-taught hobbyist painter, Henri Rousseau.

The controversial British photographer David Hamilton took a vastly different perspective with his scenes and figures. His works became well known in the 1960’s and he’s been working and publishing mostly nude images of young girls ever since. Hamilton has been the source of many attempted book bans, installation removals, child pornography investigations, and surely a litany of hate mail. His photography has for decades been the source of debate on “is it art or pornography?” Rousseau painted in the naive or primitive style during the late 19th/early 20th century, and his works for the most part were ridiculed by his contemporary audience. That is until he began to gain the attention and respect of top artists like Pablo Picasso, when slowly his works became widely admired. So, the hallmarks of each artist played out individually; The line split into innocent pastel dresses in tiers of plumetis and Chantilly lace with smocked detailing, or delicately knit palazzo pants and flowy beachside dresses in all-white inspired by Hamilton’s iconic soft focused Seventies imagery, whereas vibrant embroideries of tropical flora and fauna nodded to Rousseau’s fantasy-jungle world.

 

Those of you seeking newness may gravitate toward a white fur bolero boldly patterned with multicolored floral sprigs, white or black jeans with tone-on-tone embroidery, and a dress in which an extended tulip-shaped high waistline met a sculpted bra top. Fans of flash might think to refresh their wardrobes with the bleached jeans, this time covered in multihued embroidery, the crystal-emblazoned sweatshirt, or else any of the looks in black tulle, from which the exotic printed and beaded appliqués bloomed fullest. Finally, an asymmetrically draped suede jumpsuit and the tricolor macramé lace dresses will attract those who prefer the designer in softly feminine mode rather than fierce.

The fun I had going through this whole collection can't be quantified, and I'm so glad I was able to share this with you guys. I could picture myself in everyone of these dresses and I would describe the whole collection in one word as 'Amazing. ' Well,  that's just me anyways.
