Photos: Sneak Peak OfThe Best New Over-the-Top Luxury Watches of 2016!

In case you like your wristwatch complicated and over the top, you should definitely continue reading to some really, really amazing over-the-top luxury wrist watches.

The first few months of the year are always an
exciting time when it comes to luxury watches.
Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie has
come and gone, and now our focus shifts to the
sights and sounds of Baselworld. From top to
bottom, we made our way through the latest and
greatest offerings, and narrowed things down to
the selections below, which highlight the amazing
visual and technical design prowess of the
industry. Not to worry, though; our favorite
pieces from SIHH 2016 can still be found at the
end of this list. Here's a look at our favorite new luxury watches of 2016 — including the latest from Baselworld.

Harry Winston Histoire De Tourbillon 7
Now into its seventh iteration, it seems the team behind the Histoire de Tourbillon still has room to make this piece just a little more insane. A pair of bi-axial tourbillons on the left side of the dial provides a remarkable visual display that's all too fun to stare into.

Arnold and Son UTTE Skeleton
We had nothing but love for Arnold and Son's brilliant and relatively affordable Nebula, but when it comes to the cream of the crop, it's the UTTE Skeleton that takes the prize. Comprised of the world's thinnest tourbillon movement mated to an elegant red gold case, and built with the brand's absolutely impeccable attention to detail when it comes to finishing, the limited run of 50 pieces will no doubt get snapped up quickly.

Patek Philippe 5930G World Time Chronograph
For the traditionalists in the room who love brilliantly executed complications, you're in luck, because Patek Philippe's latest World Time Chronograph does not disappoint. This is another world-record movement — this time the smallest and thinnest  world-time chronograph in existence. Typically, the complication has to be wedged into larger 43-millimeter-plus cases, but leave it to a brand like Patek to scale it down to that perfect dress watch size. The white gold beauty is by no means budget-friendly, but collectors globally will agree that if you have the coin to spend, it's worth spending.

MB&F x Black Badger HMX
Yes, this made our list of the coolest watches from
Basel we would love to buy. That said, it's also
way too funky and over-the-top to not score
points in this roundup as well. MB&F is one of the
best independent brands in the biz, and this
recent pairing with luminous materials master
James Thompson (aka Black Badger) is a match
made in heaven. This new version of the MB&F
HMX is available in three different lume colors —
blue, green, and purple — with each piece limited
to an 18-piece production run. These don't come
cheap, but you'll never see anything else like it.

Monsieur De Chanel
One of the big surprises at Baselworld this year was Chanel coming to the show with their first proper men's watch. The second surprise being how gorgeous and technically impressive the piece actually is. Following in the footsteps of Hermes and Ralph Lauren, who both got into serious-level watchmaking in recent years, Chanel's new piece boasts a combination of exquisite design and a seriously legit in-house movement. To have your first piece in the game being a jumping-hours retrograde movement, packaged in a watch that looks like it could have come from the likes of A. Lange & Söhne? Well done, Chanel. Well done indeed.

Ulysse Nardin Grand Deck Marine Tourbillon
We've seen some weird complications and mechanisms over the years, but for 2016 this one is hard to beat. In case you think your eyes are tricking you, yes, that is a piece of nanofiber that is used to move the retrograde minute hand across the dial from zero to 60 as the minutes pass by. That is also some beautifully hand- worked teak on its dial. The Grand Deck Marine is as odd as it is innovative, and for that it had to make it on this list.

Angelus U30 Tourbillon Rattrapante
Also in the technically geeky sphere, the U30
mates a number of practical complications — a
flyback split-seconds chronograph, a power
reserve indicator, a tourbillon escapement, as
well as a sweeping seconds indicator — together
in a bold yet still easy-to-read timepiece. This is a
killer choice for someone wanting an impressive and elaborate complication in a more sporty package.

Fiona Krüger Petite Skull

Fiona Krüger's sophomore effort brings her killer
eye for craftsmanship and detail down to a case
size more suited to daily wear than her original
(and equally stunning) Celebration Skull .

Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater
Bvlgari has had a number of solid hits with its
Octo series of watches, and new for Baselworld
we were presented with an all-new, range-
topping minute repeater complication. Much like a couple of our other offerings, Bvlgari went for the record books and managed to build the thinnest variation of the complication in existence. Typically you want a minute repeater to be a bit thicker, as its chime needs space to echo through its case. In the case of the Finissimo, the brand opted for cut-out indices, which allow thevsound of the repeater to bounce off the inside of the crystal to help amplify its output.

Hublot Masterpiece MP-07
When presented with the opportunity to handle
the all new Hublot MP-07 we were blissfully unaware of how little information Hublot was presenting about the piece, as well as how few of us were given the chance to see it outside of the presentation case. The important facts are as follows: The MP-07 is a continuation of Hublot's range-topping Masterpiece Collection. It expands on the innovation that came from the La Ferrari MP-05 and its vertically stacked movement by using nine series-linked barrels, giving it a power reserve that will run an astonishing 42 days.
